Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 July 2026

Sarah’s Lens ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose personal information through sarahslens.com.au and our business operations.

1. Who we are

Sarah’s Lens, ABN: 48261486767, Contact: sarah@sarahslens.com.au

2. What personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details: name, email address, phone number, business name
  • Inquiry/booking details: project brief, product/brand information, budget range, preferred shoot dates, location
  • Payment information: billing details for invoicing (we do not store full credit card numbers — these are processed by our third-party payment provider, see Section 5)
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, collected automatically via website analytics
  • Communications: emails, messages, or call notes arising from our correspondence with you

We only collect information that is reasonably necessary for our business functions — primarily, responding to inquiries and delivering commercial photography services.

3. How we collect personal information

We collect personal information:

  • Directly from you, when you fill out a contact/quote form, email us, or engage us for a shoot
  • Automatically, through cookies and analytics tools when you browse our website (see Section 6)
  • From third parties, where you've been referred to us or where a client organisation provides contact details of relevant staff for a commercial shoot

4. How we use your personal information

We use personal information to:

  • Respond to inquiries and provide quotes
  • Plan, deliver, and invoice for photography services
  • Maintain client records for tax and business purposes
  • Send updates about a booking or project you've engaged us for
  • With your consent, send occasional marketing communications (e.g. a newsletter or portfolio updates)
  • Improve our website and services based on aggregated, de-identified usage data

We do not use personal information for any purpose you would not reasonably expect, and we do not use any automated decision making system that makes decisions about individuals without human involvement.

5. Disclosure to third parties

We may disclose personal information to:

  • Service providers who help us run the business — e.g. email hosting, website hosting, booking/invoicing software, cloud storage for client galleries, and payment processors. These providers only receive the information needed to perform their function.
  • Professional advisers such as our accountant, where relevant to invoicing or tax obligations.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, if required by law.

We do not sell personal information to third parties, and we do not disclose it for any other organisation's marketing purposes.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the tools we use (e.g. email, website hosting, cloud storage, or booking software) may store data on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure those overseas providers handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, as required under APP 8.

6. Cookies and website analytics

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to:

  • Understand how visitors use the site (e.g. via Google Analytics or similar)
  • Remember preferences and improve site performance

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some website functionality.

7. Direct marketing

We will only send you direct marketing communications (such as a newsletter) if you have opted in, or where you are an existing client and the communication relates to similar services (in line with APP 7). Every marketing communication will include a clear way to unsubscribe, and we will act on unsubscribe requests promptly.

8. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure, including:

  • Restricting access to client information to those who need it
  • Using reputable, secure third-party platforms for storage, invoicing, and communication
  • Retaining personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law (e.g. tax record-keeping obligations)

9. Data breach notification

If we experience a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to affected individuals, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required.

10. Access and correction

You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, and to request correction if it's inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. To make a request, contact us at sarah@sarahslens.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 30 days.

11. Children's privacy

Our services are directed at businesses and adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child's information has been provided to us without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can address it.

12. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or mishandled your personal information, you can lodge a complaint by contacting us directly at sarah@sarahslens.com.au. We will investigate and respond within a reasonable time.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):

  • Website: oaic.gov.au
  • Phone: 1300 363 992

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. The current version will always be available on our website, with the "last updated" date shown above.
